Los Feliz Flea Market: Relocating to Vintage Land

Los Feliz Flea Market: Relocating to Vintage Land

The Los Feliz Flea Market, while retaining its name, is bidding farewell to its previous location in Los Feliz.

Having operated for several years at John Marshall High School, the weekly market is now shifting its base to a parking structure nestled between Echo Park and Downtown. This move comes with an expansion of amenities, including the addition of a full bar, previously unattainable due to restrictions on a public school campus.

The Los Feliz Flea had a fluctuating presence at Marshall High over three years, experiencing closures and reopenings amidst the challenges posed by the pandemic. However, recent changes have seen the market’s frequency reduced to twice a month, reportedly at the discretion of the school’s principal and vice principal, though the exact rationale remains undisclosed by the Los Angeles Unified School District.

This relocation echoes a trend of flea markets departing public school premises, reminiscent of the Silver Lake Flea Market’s departure from Micheltorena Street School in 2019 after a twelve-year tenure.

Yet, the organizers of the Los Feliz Flea are not merely relocating; they are establishing a brand-new venue dubbed Vintage Land. This multifaceted space will not only host the flea market but also accommodate rooftop cinema screenings, vintage motorcycle and car auctions, and fashion runway shows.

The chosen venue, a parking garage on Alpine Street, will host the Los Feliz Flea on weekends, predominantly on its rooftop, with capacity for over 200 vendors, mirroring its previous setup at Marshall High. Additionally, larger items such as furniture will be showcased on the ground floor. Conveniently, ample free parking will be available, given the location’s nature as a garage.

Despite the move, the Los Feliz Flea will maintain a connection to Marshall High by extending invitations to approximately 15 students who previously worked at the market, offering them opportunities to continue their involvement at the new location.
