Los Angeles City Council Approves $750,000 Salary for New DWP General Manager, Janisse Quiñones

The Los Angeles City Council unanimously confirmed Janisse Quiñones, a longtime executive at Pacific Gas and Electric, as the new general manager of the Department of Water and Power, with an annual salary of $750,000—nearly double that of her predecessor. The confirmation followed a nationwide search prompted by the retirement announcement of the previous general manager, Martin Adams.

Council President Paul Krekorian emphasized the significance of the appointment, stating that leadership of the DWP is crucial for the city. He highlighted the need for a cultural shift within the utility to ensure integrity, prioritize customer service, and address infrastructure needs.

Quiñones outlined her goals, including understanding department priorities, focusing on energy efficiency projects, and ensuring equitable service to communities. Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez stressed the importance of transparency and urged Quiñones to proceed cautiously.

The council also approved Quiñones’ salary, previously set by the Board of Water and Power Commissioners. Mayor Karen Bass expressed confidence in Quiñones’ ability to lead during a transformative period for the department, aiming for 100% renewable energy by 2035.

Quiñones, with over 25 years of leadership experience in utilities and engineering, expressed gratitude for the nomination and pledged to prioritize reliable, clean, and sustainable utilities.

Bass thanked Adams for his service and leadership, noting his assistance during the transition period despite his earlier retirement announcement.
