Los Angeles County Reopens Rent Relief Program for Landlords Impacted by COVID-19

The Department of Consumer and Business Affairs announced on Monday that Los Angeles County will reopen applications for its rent relief program next week, aimed at landlords affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Starting next Monday at 9 a.m., interested parties can apply until June 4 at 4:59 p.m. Those interested are encouraged to check eligibility requirements, register to receive the application link upon its release and access the application directly at lacountyrentrelief.com.

To aid applicants, various community organizations will offer free webinars and multilingual technical support. Support services will be available daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. starting on the application opening date.

County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath emphasized the upcoming application launch, urging landlords to apply and tenants to encourage their landlords to participate.

Launched on December 12, 2023, the Los Angeles County Rent Relief Program aims to financially assist landlords affected by the pandemic. Managed by The Center by Lendistry and initiated by the Board of Supervisors, the program disbursed over $68 million in financial aid during its first round, assisting eligible landlords with up to $30,000 per rental unit for past due rent and eligible expenses dating back to April 1, 2022.

This program targets small landlords, with a cap of four rental units, aiming to curb evictions, sustain small-scale rental businesses, and ensure affordable housing availability.

Rafael Carbajal, DCBA Director, highlighted the program’s focus on aiding vulnerable tenants and properties in high-need areas, as identified by the county’s Equity Explorer Tool. However, submitting an application does not guarantee funding.

Applicants from the first round were encouraged to complete any pending tasks and reach out to the Rent Relief Customer Call Center for assistance to expedite processing and aid distribution.

Tunua Thrash-Ntuk, President and CEO of The Center by Lendistry, reiterated the commitment to supporting local landlords and safeguarding affordable housing as the second round of the program kicks off.
