With the November 5 election just days away, Metro has announced it will offer free rides across its entire system to help voters get to the polls or drop off their mail-in ballots.
From midnight to 11:59 p.m. on Election Day, Metro will waive fares on all buses, trains, and bike-and-ride share services. In addition to Metro, several local transit agencies—including Culver City, Santa Monica, Glendale, Pasadena, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Foothill, Norwalk, and Montebello—will also provide free rides, according to officials.
“Metro encourages all eligible county residents to exercise their constitutional right to vote,” the agency said in a statement. “By providing free rides on Election Day, Metro is supporting voter turnout and making it easier for everyone to reach polling places.”
Metro’s bike-share program will offer free 30-minute rides on Election Day using promo code 110524. Riders can select “1-Ride” at any Metro Bike Share kiosk, online, or in the Metro Bike Share app and enter the code to redeem. A credit or debit card is required, and the code can be used multiple times throughout the day. Electric bike fees will be waived, with an additional $1.75 charged for every 30 minutes after the first half hour.
Metro Micro, the agency’s short-trip service operating in eight zones across Los Angeles County, is also free on Election Day with promo code Vote24. Users can apply the code on the app, online, or by calling 323-GO-METRO (323-466-3876) and selecting option 5.
To further expand voting access, Metro partnered with the L.A. County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk’s Office to install secure ballot drop boxes at key transit stations, including:
• Union Station, east portal
• El Monte Bus Transit Center, plaza area
• Harbor Gateway Transit Center, transit plaza
• Harbor Freeway C Line, park and ride
• Hollywood/Western B Line, plaza area
• North Hollywood B Line, east plaza
• Norwalk C Line, east plaza
• Westlake/MacArthur Park B & D Lines, courtyard area
• Wilshire/Vermont B & D Lines, courtyard area
Metro’s headquarters at Union Station will also host a voting center on Election Day, open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
